Today is National Vanilla Milkshake Day, but I hope you'll forgive me for going with this strawberry milk instead. You can make this anytime of the year, but June is strawberry season! I find that strawberry milk is a difficult thing to shop for, as it's often too sweet and artificial tasting. After making this, I learned that homemade is the way to go! I love this recipe because it is not overly complicated, and it doesn’t completely fill you up. This recipe is sourced from Smitten Kitchen- one of my favorite, reliable, recipe blogs to follow!
Serving size: Servings: 4 small glasses
Start to Finish: 10 minutes + 1 hour sitting time + overnight
Ingredients:
8 ounces strawberries, trimmed and sliced
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup buttermilk
Directions:
Mix strawberries and sugar in the bottom of a bowl (or even your blender’s bowl) and let them macerate for at least an hour, or until very syrupy. The more juice they exude now, the better. Blend strawberries and juices until smooth, then pour into a pitcher along with milk and buttermilk. Stir and let steep overnight in the fridge. In the morning, mix again if needed, and pour into glasses. Repeat as long as it lasts.
